Song Of The Moment

Tamara

I once had an old friend.
She was intriguing, dark and mysterious.
Her name was Tamara.
And I was her best friend, Julius.

We got into so much trouble together.
Dad didn’t really care much but Mom hated her.
My other friends didn’t enjoy her company.
But I was convinced they were all haters.

That is until one day,
I got a call from my counselor.
He said I was lacking credits.
That my degree was done for.

I knew what had been the problem.
Tamara and me had been skipping.
Cut class too many times to count.
But I bet she was still graduating.

Then it hit me square in the face.
Tamara wasn’t good for me.
I made her leave me alone
And told her to stay away from me.

Then she disappeared
And I never heard from her again.
My life was back on track.
Free of her sin.

Then I went to a party once
And I found that she was there
Sitting as she was waiting for me
All I could do was stare

But I knew better by now
I knew what I had to do.
She would only wreck my life.
I knew that to be the truth.

So I ignored her presence
and pretended she didn’t exist.
Then after a while, she didn’t.
After all this time, I could resist.

Poison comes in all shapes and forms.
And it could kill you, if you let it, at any time.
So save yourself and find yours.
Tamara was mine.
