As I take the first step
I look down at the concrete
I take another step toward my destination
And I continue walking
I pick my head up
And now I’m walking with a smile
I’m feeling confident in my steps.
I don’t have to look down
Then I get to the next block
And I’m still walking with a smirk
Only this block is a little crooked
So I walk fast before I get hurt
Then I get to the third block
And by this time, my smile is absent.
I walk tough and I walk alone.
Steps full of hatred.
Now I’m at the main street
And I have to get on the other side
But it’s such a busy street
Such a big stride
Then I remember when I first started walking
And I wait for the cars to stop at the light
Then I begin to cross the busy street
And my destination is in sight
I’ll never stop my steps
Not as long as I’m still breathing and talking
Cause the only way I’ll get to my destination, my dream
Is if I keep walking
