I got older and I figured it out. There’s neither black nor white. In fact, we’re all the same color. We’re all from the same mother and all share the same skin if you look at it from within. In as much as we are different, we are the same. We all have the same name. The same color.
Most call it humanity, I call it Greyscale.
I take all my photos in black and white
Initially it was because I hated my skin
I hated how it looked when
I took my pictures and posted them.
But now I see why Greyscale is ideal.
It makes me more real. Realer than the colors do.
I mean when I showed my pictures to you,
You didn’t like them, that’s true.
But when I drained the color out of them, the differentiator and the instigator of hatred and segregation, and left you with the reality, you came to the realization that … I am not much different from you. My skin may be brown but my blood is still red. Yet you look at me like yours is purple, instead.
No, we’re all the same. Even in instances of right and wrong. Even when you see me as a coward and I see you as the whore of this throng that we call high school, we’re still the same. We still have the same name: human. We all have lungs, hearts, eyes and souls. Don’t always trust what you’ve been told. Don’t continue to buy into that bullshit you’ve been sold.
Racism is old, I’m not talking about that.
I’m talking about something much more prevalent.
Something much more relevant than an old issue of skin
Something like the truths that we’ve forgotten from within.
I’m neither black nor white. Neither good nor evil. I’m human and only human and this is the way I feel. I feel like there should be no classifications and no division or subtraction. Only addition and multiplication. Do you feel what I’m saying?
Cause at the end of the day, we all bleed the same.
We all have the same eyes and the same sight.
We all have hearts and souls,
We’re all human. Right? Right.
