Irony

Define Irony.

A word used so prevalently.

By this generation of teens and tweens.

But do we know what it actually means?

Or maybe, like most things

It’s different for person

Maybe it’s not the same for the one who’s happy

And the one who’s hurtin’

So for me, what could be irony?

Is it when you look at me

and don’t see Jay

But something else entirely?

Is it when love is now hate?

Opposites of each other that

Are now confused with one another

Because of our mistakes?

Is it when lies are more loved than the ‘truth’?

Tell me that isn’t irony to you.

When liars are praised and given fame?

Irony under another name.

Define Irony.

Is it when religion is the new sin?

When there’s less hatred outside the church

Than what actually lies within?

Is it when anonymity

is more honest than our own identity?

When people pay more attention to what Julius Blake is saying

And never listen to Jalen?

Define Irony.

Is it when families are no longer bound by blood?

When you make one with people who aren’t relatives

But just people you genuinely love?

Is it when children are more mature than adults?

When the son has less faults and more sense

Than his father and mother

and is more of a parent than an older brother?

Is it when every new girl could double for your ex?

Double the pain, double the regret.

When they all act like V?

Ignoring the sincerity radiating from me?

Yeah, that’s irony.

Irony. When something isn't at all what it looks to be.

When you look at it and can’t see what it’s supposed to be.

That’s my definition of irony.
