This isn’t what you think it is.
These aren’t the words you find in Webster’s.
This is the reality of one aspect of society in this world.
This is an exposé of the pretenders.
I can do this cause I used to be one.
I used to wear a mask on my face.
I used to lie with no hesitation.
I used to pretend to believe what I would say.
Cause pretending isn’t just lying.
It isn’t just avoiding the truth.
It’s telling lies to everyone you know
and convincing everyone, even you.
Cause you never know how good you are at lying,
until you start believing the lies you’ve told others.
And you never realize you’re pretending,
until the truth is uncovered.
I don’t have time to pretend anymore
It’s too much hassle juggling two lives.
It’s too much work keeping up my mask
It’s too much work creating new lies.
I just wanna be myself.
Without anyone’s help.
Cause it’s the best I’ve ever felt,
About myself.
Plus pretending holds us back from loving.
How can you love someone you don’t know?
How can you say someone loves you,
If they really just love the lies you’ve told?
I lied to protect myself.
From the pain of being me.
I think this is why we all do it.
The person we really are, we want no one to see.
But if a person needs to be fed a lie,
For them to appreciate you
Then perhaps you need better company.
Cause some will love you with just the truth.
A false pretense is weak defense.
I don’t need to lie anymore, this is me.
I hope that I can encourage the rest of you to drop your
masks.
It’s time to grow up, it’s time to stop pretending.
S/o to the pretenders in life. May reality set in for you soon. Smh.
