Eighteen years ago,
We were both just getting here
Looking at each other as just babies
With eyes full of tears
Then we grew up
And our lives began to intertwine
We officially met that fateful day
When you defended your family and I defended mine
It was then we became friends
And we held a mutual respect for one another
Out of all the youth in that church
I think we the only ones who understood each other
And that’s such an integral part
Of this powerful connection that we share
We get each other more than anyone else
And we’re always there
When we both lost the ones we were in love with
It was only us who could relate
It was us who could understand how we felt
It was us who know the pain that we could take
I figured it out that day
How much you really meant to me
And now after, quite possibly, our biggest test
I know that this is meant to be
What I have with you isn’t going anywhere
I promise you that on this day
I’ll always love you, Amber.
I’m here to stay.
