Drown

When I look at you,
All I see is pain
It penetrates you like a lover
that pushes until you scream their name

When I hear your voice,
It’s strained
With the same pain as before.
Cause that’s all you think you live for.

When I touch you, you’re cold
Cold as ice
The opposite of warm and nice.
The effects of the pain reached their height.

Yet this pain you have
And these challenges you face.
They could be erased.
If you wanted.

You call me at 2 am
Venting as usual asking for a solution
And I give you one cause I know you, I love you
All it takes is for you to do it

But the thing you have to do
To feel the way you want to feel
You refuse.
And I think it’s cause it makes the pain too real.

I think that when you face your pain
It’s so much that you lock it away forever
And then tell yourself that it doesn’t exist.
Tell me, is that it?

Then when it casually leaks out,
You want someone to help.
And you trust no one but me
So who else?

But you don’t take my advice
You just reject everything.
Cause I tell you what you need to do
And you’d do just about anything . . . other than that.

My great-grandmother used to call life a sea
It’s a body of water and the epitome of beauty
But water can be dangerous and it could kill us
If you’re held down by too much

I love you and you know that. I always have.
But I don’t know what to say right now.
It seems like instead of solving your problems and being happy,
You’d rather bear the weight of them all and just drown.
