His legs were growing tired
How much more longer could he run from his past?
No sleep - he's 24/7 wired
He needs a permanent solution at last
Drugs and liquor were too temporary
He already made his loved ones think him scary
His dance with the Devil turned into a chase
He was tricked into it with every case
"This is a preview of my fate"
He would say as the one night medicine burned his insides
How much longer could he put up with these rides?
Then one day the Devil challenged him to a race
The starting line was a vast desert place
They were off and he was desperate to win
As the Devil ran ahead, he screamed the man's every sin
With every sin spoken the man would run harder
Even as his legs wanted to quit he's scream at them, "I need to escape him! Take me farther!"
That's when he saw it
His salvation, right off the cliff
The pit
He looked back as he ran and saw the Devil sitting and laughing
But before he even realized what happened
The ground beneath him had vanished
It was entirely too late to undo the damage
He became property of the air, paid for by the wind's sound
But this ownership was short-lived as he was soon stolen by the ground
And as the Devil chuckled and sat
He whispered to himself
"Splat."
