Song Of The Moment

The Way Through

A while ago, there traveled a old fellow
Down a lonely road
The last trip he thought he’d take
Before it was time to go

As fate would have it
He met a young guy.
Down the same road he went.
No destination in mind.

You’re traveling haphazardly?
Young folks are so dumb.
When I was your age, we paid attention.
We didn’t travel for fun.

I beg to differ, old guy.
My parents are travelers.
They’re across the world now.
Having fun with Spaniards.

Yet they leave their boy here?
And so he thinks he should travel.
Great parents, they are.
Then he shrugged, baffled.

It was clear to the both of them.
They were vastly different.
But fate had a plan that day.
And this was the beginning of it.

Whilst traveling adjacently
They came to an abrupt stop.
In the way of their path
There was a very large rock.

I got this, old guy.
Certainly I can move it.
I’m young and I’m strong.
There’s nothing to it.

He tried the rock from all angles.
Pushing on sides.
He knew his strength would come through.
No matter the rock’s size.

But despite his strength,
The rock did not move.
The young man fell in defeat.
In awe of what he could not do.

The old man looked down upon him.
He had never seen a sight so pitiful.
A young traveler holding his head
Looking so miserable

Now this old man had a past.
One that wasn’t too bright.
In his youth, he was selfish.
He’d never share, even if it meant a fight.

So for the life of him now
He could not understand
Why he had the sudden urge
To help this young man

The rock was a simple task.
One in his youth the old man had tried.
But he lacked strength at this age.
He’d need someone on his side.

Get up young man.
The fight is not yet over.
Place your hands on this rock like me
And with all your might push it forward.

Then the rock began to move
And the two men began to celebrate
They thanked each other for the help
Then they went on their way

This tale should’ve taught you something
About life and it’s problems too.
No matter how hard it gets, find someone who’ll bear it with you.
The only way out is The Way Through.
