Song Of The Moment

Too Far To Chase

It bewilders me because
I never thought I'd shatter someone the way I once was
The toy became the young child
A fitting title for the thief of a smile
How dare I ask for permission to hold a heart too heavy?
I am not Atlas and your heart is not a world that I can carry
I let you chase me knowing I'd soon step aside and let you crash
You trusted me to catch you, so you didn't leave your parachute attached
We were on completely different mountains
Why did you expect me to be at the foot of yours?
We swam two completely different oceans
Why did you expect me to save you from drowning?
We walked on two different poles
Why did you expect me to warm you as you froze?
We were simply too far for me to hear the sound of your heart beat
Too far to be engulfed and captivated by its radiating heat
I led you to believe we would run along the cosmos with the stars surrounding
Even as I ruefully let you go, my heart continues on pounding
But the end crept up on you too soon like a December night
And I still walked away as you stressed and pulled with all your might
I just didn't deserve you
That's a title that I wasn't qualified for but someone else will run to
Someday someone will praise you like the planets as they revolve around the sun
Someone who'll warm your insides like when I drink my brown rum
So don't dwell over the loss of an unworthy jester
You're a Queen and I am simply not royalty so leave me in today's yester.
